Trinity Gains An Intern for the Coming Months
[Trinity]
Wed, Nov 2 2011 5:51 PM CDT
- Dan Anderson-Little
Tom Thomas, an elder at Bonhomme Presbyterian Church in Chesterfield, will be a ministry intern at Trinity for the next 7 or 8 months. Tom is part of our Presbytery's Commissioned Lay Pastor (CLP) Program, a program that trains elders of the church to perform pastoral ministry. Many CLPs serve small churches that cannot afford a pastor, but some CLPs serve in more targeted capacities in larger churches.
At this point, Tom is not sure what his call to ministry is, but he is excited to be growing in his discipleship and in his ability to serve the church in new ways. Tom is also excited to serve at Trinity and to be a part of our faith community.
During the coming months, Tom will serve at Trinity in a variety of capacities including planning and assisting in worship (he will preach a couple of times), working with the education ministry and pastoral care.
Tom is married to Mary and they have three children: Trey (13), and Hope and Grace (both 12). Tom works in the IT Department of Express Scripts.
Please welcome Tom to Trinity and encourage him in his ministry!

Wed, Oct 26 2011 5:52 PM CDT
- Dan Anderson Little, Pastor
We are pleased to announce that we have hired Hannah Peters to be Trinity's new Minister of Youth Education and Fellowship. Hannah has been the Director of Children's Ministries at Webster Groves Presbyterian Church for the past seven years. Prior to her work at Webster Presbyterian, Hannah worked in the insurance industry. Hannah is married to Baker Symes and they make their home in Webster Groves. They have a grown son. Hannah describes herself as "a caring, open, warm, creative and supportive leader." The Search Committee heartily agrees with that assessment.
Hannah will officially begin at Trinity on October 24. You can meet her on Sunday, October 30. We will plan an event in the next couple of weeks for the members and particularly the children and youth of the church to get to know Hannah. Watch for the date!
Thanks to the entire congregation for your prayers and support as we have gone through this search. We are excited about the gifts and faith that Hannah brings to Trinity.
The Search Committee was composed of Jayne Howard, Kris Kerr, Jeremy Williams, and Dan Anderson-Little.

Presbytery Names Rev. Bill Lorenz as Parish Associate of Trinity
[Trinity]
Wed, May 25 2011 4:30 PM CDT
- Dan Anderson-Little
For the past two years, Rev. Bill Lorenz has been an active participant in the ministry of Trinity. He sings in the Trinity Choir, helps lead worship, preaches on occasion, has worked on community mission projects, and visits some of Trinity's homebound members. A few months ago, the Session of Trinity asked the Presbytery to formalize a relationship between Bill and the congregation. This past week, the Presbytery acted and Bill is now Trinity's Parish Associate. What is a Parish Associate? A Parish Associate is an ordained minister who has been asked by a Session to serve the congregation in a particular way. In Bill's case, he will serve the congregation through liturgical leadership and pastoral care. Some Parish Associates are compensated for their ministry; some are not. In Bill's case, there is no financial compensation for his work, except for the gratitude of the congregation. Please welcome Bill to this new ministry.

Grant is the outreach coordinator for the Community Health in Partnership Services clinic, which serves as a permanent health home for St. Louis' under- and uninsured communities. Through her work, she has inspired incoming students to see medicine as a service to the community.
She has served as a site leader for Healthy Eating nutrition classes, an instructor for Students Teaching AIDS to Students, and a teacher and curriculum developer for the Health Profession Recruitment Education Program. She also leads the Family Medicine Interest Group. Grant and two of her peers received a Social Change Grant from WUSTL, which allowed her to return to the Marshall Islands, where she had taught for two years, and develop a culturally sensitive nutrition and health curriculum for the schools.

Sat, May 7 2011 7:36 AM CDT
Greetings from the couch at Chez Nelson. While I'm told I must "keep my toes above my nose" for another week or two, no one says I can't do a bit of work remotely in the meantime. I'll be doing that as the pain and the medications both decrease. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers and a big thanks to Don Twellman, Catherine Klostermeier and Norman Bolden for covering the desk, and my awesome co-workers for taking on all those "other duties as assigned" in this interim!

Session-established Evelyn Patterson Memorial Fund
[Trinity]
Sat, Feb 19 2011 8:48 AM CST
Long time Trinity member and centenarian Evelyn Patterson died on Feb. 6. As many Trinity members knows, Evelyn's passion was teaching and knowledge. Not only did she teach Latin at U City High School for many decades, she also used to oversee the Trinity library. Our library has been dismantled, but as a way to honor Evelyn's commitment to education, the Session has decided that memorial funds given in memory of Evelyn will be put into a special fund to support adult education at Trinity If you would like to give a memorial gift in honor of Evelyn, please send a check to the church office with Evelyn's name in the memo line.

Dear Friends,
I'm delighted to tell you that, after an examination by the Session, I will start this Sunday as a Pastoral Associate at 2nd Presbyterian Church. I'll begin by assisting in worship on Sunday, and will also lead a Lenten book group and work with new members to connect them to the church, to other members, and to becoming involved in the life of the church. Sound familiar? It won't be called equipping!
Love, Julie

I must thank a handful of men who masterminded the construction project and were there every step of the way: Mark O'Bryan, the architect with the vision; Reed Evans, the contractor consultant for my million questions; Bob Little, with his wonderful persepective and ideas, and --last but not least-- Don Twellman, who helped 4 days a week, week in and week out in the office, making calls and coordinating contractors.
WU Article Highlights our George Van Hare
[Washington University Record]
Thu, Jan 20 2011 5:26 PM CST
For someone who grew up on the East Coast and spent much of his career on the West Coast, George Van Hare, MD, certainly seems at home in the Midwest.
Van Hare, chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, arrived at Washington University School of Medicine and St. Louis Children's Hospital in 2008 from northern California after some soul-searching prompted him and his wife, Michele "Middy" Estabrook, MD, also a pediatrician, to change the focus of their successful medical careers.
"For nearly 20 years, my career had focused on innovating new procedures to cure heart rhythm problems in children," Van Hare says. "I was part of the revolution in nonpharmacologic care of arrhythmias in children. I loved it, but I decided I wanted my career to take a different turn. At the same time, my wife had an ambition to be more involved in medical education, so we looked for somewhere we could go together."

David Rand Doing "Some Pretty Neat Things" in Chicago
[Huffington Post]
Sat, Jan 15 2011 9:29 AM CST
...our attention was focused on a humble yet captivating gentleman at our table who was talking about his work with farmers' markets.
His name was David Rand and, as he explained, he worked at the farmers' markets of Chicago. As we listened, it became apparent that this young man was effectively the entire inspection, delivery and support person for the many farmers' markets in Chicago! It's a huge undertaking which, like all unsung heroes, David significantly underplayed. He explained he was attending the event to raise awareness of the Farmers' Market Coalition, the organization he worked for. And I was blown away by what the Coalition is trying to achieve...
