2008 Habitat for Humanity Build

Habitat Work Days in October
[Trinity]

I want to build a home! I want to give a mom and her kids a good place to live, study, make meals, sleep - better than the cramped apartment they have now. With Habitat for Humanity, we can do that and, step by step, improve housing for all in St. Louis. Trinity has three Habitat for Humanity work days in October. We will work October 4, 11, and 25. On October 4 and 11 the work may be exterior and interior painting, installing siding, possibly starting on installing flooring. On October 25 we will lay sod and plant bushes and trees. We need 10 to 15 people on the 4th and 11th, and will ask Habitat to add to our numbers to make 25 on the 25th. Please call or email Pat Gibbons, 727-1471 home, 935-6271work, pcg@wuphys.wustl.edu, to claim your day(s) to work.

I Want to Build a House
[Trinity]

"....I want to help Mom get a home where she can raise her children, encourage them, invite their friends to come and play, or work on school projects. I can do this, thanks to Trinity and Habitat for Humanity."

We had our first build day at the Habitat home (two blocks east of Grand Boulevard and two blocks north of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive) on Thursday, August 21. Thank you to Stacey Carman, Vicki Carmichael, Pat Courtney, Curt March, Rob Peglar, Jim Person, Art Platt, Bob Wagoner, and Nancy Wagoner, who joined me that day. We got a lot done.

Consider signing up for our next day: (tentatively) Saturday, October 25, and on another Saturday in October to be determined later. Email me at pcg@wustl.edu, or call at 314-727-1471 (home) or 314-935-6271 (work) with any questions. And please keep all the staff and volunteers at Habitat in your prayers as this year's ambitious build goes on.

Please sign up ASAP if you can work Thursday, August 21 (7:45 am-3:30 or 4:30 pm). We should provide 20 volunteers that day. If we are short, Pat Gibbons can ask Wash. U. Habitat students to join us, but he needs to know who will work SOON. Respond today in the narthex, email Pat Gibbons at pcg@wustl.edu, or call him. He will have "what to expect" forms, maps and directions, and required waiver of liability forms in the narthex. And please keep all the staff and volunteers at Habitat in your prayers as this year's ambitious build goes on.

Pick Habitat Build Days
[Trinity]
Dear Trinity Members,

We are getting ready to build! Habitat for Humanity St. Louis is asking us to pick 2 build days when we will staff the house we are sponsoring. Build days go from 7:30 am to 4 pm.

1) If you would like to work on erecting the frame Wednesday, Thursday OR Friday, August 20, 21 or 22, please tell Pat Gibbons, pcg@wustl.edu, as soon as possible. We would need 25 workers on Wednesday and 20 on Thursday or Friday. Friday may be the best day for many people.

2) We also need to staff one Saturday, sometimes between Saturday, August 23rd and November 22nd (except for August 30th). Please consult the attached list of tasks for various Saturdays and tell Pat which ones you would like to choose.

Pat Gibbons will be in the Narthex this Sunday July 27th before and after our service with more information, sign-up sheets, and appropriate forms. Come be a part of the Trinity Build!! Please reply directly to Pat at pcg@wustl.edu rather than to the church office.

Thanks,
Pat
Habitat for Humanity Opportunity
[Trinity]

Trinity has built Habitat for Humanity homes in 2001 and 2003. Trinity can build again in 2008! Details are at the end of this.

By early June we had already raised a total of almost $4,600. We need $5,000 to reserve two work days for Trinity volunteers, or $10,000 would secure three days for us. The building by volunteers will start with four consecutive days, August 20 through 23, and then continue on twelve successive Saturdays, excluding holiday weekends. The first single Saturday, then, will be September 6. Get your hammers and brushes ready! We will start signing up volunteers in July.

For now, you need a different tool. Get your checkbooks ready! Please consider contributing generously to this good cause sponsored by Trinity. Make checks payable to Trinity and write "Habitat" in the memo line.

Build Details: The build site is two blocks east of Grand Boulevard and two blocks north of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. Our home will be sponsored by Trinity, by the Washington University Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and by others, with whom we will be matched by Habitat for Humanity St. Louis staff.

In 2003 we built a home in Hillsdale, which was sponsored and staffed by Interfaith Builders' four churches: Our Lady of the Pillar Parish, Sacred Heart Parish in Valley Park, St. Peter's Episcopal, and Trinity Presbyterian.

In 2001 we built in Hamilton Heights, at the corner of Belt and Wells Avenues. All of the funds and most of the workers came from Trinity.

Habitat for Humanity Individual Volunteer Request
[Trinity]

Our 2008 Build has kicked-off and we are need of construction volunteers to help us ensure we meet our required number of volunteers during our Phase 1 blitz. We are trying to recruit approximately 80-88 volunteers for Wed, June 4th; Thurs, June 5th & Fri, June 6th.

This is an OPEN PLEA, which means you do not have to attend orientation prior to volunteering! Please click the date below for which you would like to volunteer. Spots are filled on a "first respond, first schedule basis". We must keep count of the number of open volunteer slots, as we will supply water and lunch for you.

We will send you a RSVP email with a waiver, directions, and volunteer brochure to confirm your attendance. Once we reach our required volunteer numbers we will send you an email letting you know all slots are full! Please do not come to work if you do not receive a confirmation. Our build schedule calls for a specific number of volunteers to complete each task. If we go over those numbers then we end up with people standing around disengaged with the project. We do not want Habitat volunteers to feel they have wasted their time.

You must be 16 years or older. If you are under 18 years old there should be 1 adult for every 4-5 youth. Small groups of 3-5 volunteers are welcome, as well as larger groups of 10-15.

Waiver: We must have a 2008 waiver on file. When we send your RSVP we will attach a waiver for you to print out and bring to the site. Please remember the waiver is 2-sided and we need both pages. Anyone under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian-no exceptions! Please DO NOT fax your waivers to our office.

Time: You should arrive no later than 7:45AM; the day will go until about 4PM for construction volunteers. Please keep in mind that this is a full day commitment if you sign up for construction; no exceptions.

Please click the day for which you would like to volunteer. You can RSVP for up to 3 people, and you can volunteer for more then one day.

Please include your first name, last name, and email address. We will send you a confirmation email with additional information.

For questions about build days and confirmation emails, please email builddays@habitatstl.org. Thanks!
